Knowing When to Pivot in Your Startup | Mallorie Brodie
Bridgit is a “workforce intelligence” technology company focused on the construction industry. In the fall of 2021, Bridgit secured $24M CAD in Series B funding. Funding that never would have been possible if it weren’t for a brave yet calculated move to take their first project – Bridgit Field – and rethink their goals. The problem that they initially set out to solve, when they launched Bridgit in 2014, they solved. But the business model wasn’t scalable in the way they needed it to be. So, they chose to pivot. That pivot resulted in the development of Bridgit Bench. And Bench – the company’s second product offering – has completely changed the game. Not only for them as a business, but for the construction industry as a whole.
After their pivot, Bridgit quickly began getting attention from investors as a result of broader market dynamics, growth rate, happy customers and strong renewal rates. With this influx of funding, they have the capital to move quickly and maintain their pace and growth over the next few years.
Being a North American based company, the Bridgit founders recognize the huge opportunity that exists outside North America. And they plan to let the brand naturally expand over the coming years as their customers start pulling them into those global markets. There is potential for an official launch and an international presence down the road.
Bridgit still being branded as a start-up is something that Mallorie doesn’t shy away from. “I think it speaks to that mindset that you absolutely have to maintain. Even though we had a product that was successful in market for six years, we had great customers, we had that product-market fit - you can't stop innovating and you can't stop looking for opportunities within the industry. Because the industry’s going to continue to evolve. There's going to be a new entrance into the market and so you always have to remain agile and very aware. So that ability to be sensing and standing the market constantly is critical.”
